I consider myself to be an intermediate Javascript programmer. One of my goals is to reach expert level within the year. In order to do this I must start utilizing OOP practices in my JS implementations. This means learning more complex design patterns.

Awesomeness! This book works in two distinctly helpful ways. It profiles various types of personalities commonly found to cause trouble in the work place and explains some proven methods for working around them. The writer also explains some key tactics to ensure that YOU do not become one of those troubled types. A really useful book.

I have to admit that it took me a good month to really wrap my head around the CakePHP MVC approach. Now that I've done a few projects using this framework it's difficult for me to imagine how I built apps outside of the MVC model regardless of the language being used. The book itself is a 'tutorial' type of instruction with the classic approach of building a basic blog type of application along with the writer.

I had the great fortune of running into Jared Diamond at the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art. I had read his book and seen his film months before but I had to take the opportunity to thank him for his outstanding work in understanding exactly how the world became what it is today. Definitely deserves a re-read.
